Football Comes To WYN-FM

Earlier this year WYN-FM were successful with our submission to the Western Region Football League (WRFL) to provide the broadcast facilities and the air time to broadcast the WRFL match of the day for the 2003 football season.  Since the start of the football season we have been broadcasting the WRFL match of the day.

The callers for the game are provided by the WRFL and are among the best of the callers calling football outside of the AFL and VFL.  The broadcast team consist of two callers and a special comments person.  In addition the WYN-FM team deliver our new broadcast caravan and set up the equipment required to provide a high quality program back to the WYN-FM studios.  The season to date has been very successful both with the football and with our broadcast.

In addition to our broadcast of the match of the day, Kevin Hillier (Media Manager - WRFL) hosts the Patties Pies Football Show on Fridays from 5:00 to 6:00pm and Bob Dare has a WRFL segment every Monday night on his program Dare to be Different.

The purchase of the WYN-FM Outside Broadcast (OB) Van and the necessary equipment required for the calling of the football has now provided WYN-FM with the ability to now get out into our community and support special events within our broadcast area.  We are now able to broadcast any type event be it sporting or other types of events that are part of our great community.

In order to assemble and test all the equipment that it takes to get great sounding broadcasts to air, our Technical Manager, Peter White, has put in extremely long and demanding hours.  At times working round the clock, more than once in a week.  If it had not been for Peter’s exceptional efforts, the broadcasts would not have gone to air and definitely would not have sounded as professional as they do.  Our profound thanks go to Peter for some truly super human efforts.

The broadcast schedule for the coming next couple of months are located on the WYN-FM Calendar.  Why not take the time to come down to see grass roots football at its best in the WRFL and come and say hello to some of the WRFL and WYN-FM teams putting the broadcasts to air.

New Programs

Over recent months there have been a number of changes to our Program Guide.  As all members of WYN-FM are volunteers, we find that our programs will change as our members lives are affected by personal activities.  As a result of lucky circumstances we have be very fortunate to gain a number of new announcers who are bringing some great new shows to WYN-FM.  In addition we have a couple of existing members who are doing new and exciting programs.  Please check our Program Guide by following the links or even download the latest copy of the newly added downloadable program guide.

Moving on to Bigger and Better Things

Unfortunately during June, one of our Committe, presenters and Production Managers - all in the same person - has moved to the other side of Melbourne.  Colin Griffiths has taken on all of the above roles at some point in his time with WYN-FM, more recently all at the same time.  We wish Colin well and would like to thank him for all he has done during his time with WYN-FM.  We hope/know that Colin will drop in to see us when he is over this side of town.

Mug Shots - take two

Yes, the WYN-FM contribution to the centre of the dart board arrived and has been added to since our last update.  Photographs of the people with heads for radio have now been appearing on the web site and we are slowly persuading others to join our inital group of mug shots.  Our thanks to Noel Greg for braving the experience of taking the latest batch of shots.  The good news is he is recovering from the shocking experience.

To see why all of our announcers are on radio, prepare yourself and visit our announcer pages.
